Hazel Herzog graduated from Northwestern University 1966
with a BS and MS in Speech Pathology. She taught for two years at Niles West
High School and 26 years at Highland Park High School. Hazel was a speech
therapist ; she tested students for learning disabilities; and she was
assistant chairman of the Special Education Department at Highland Park. She
also helped develop and directed an English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
In addition, Hazel served as the director of the Learning Center and created an
Academic Assistance program that served students who were having academic
difficulties but were not eligible for Special Education services. She retired
from teaching in 1998 but continues to tutor students. Hazel lives in Deerfield
with her husband Bud, also a Camp of Dreams board member. They have three
children and six grandchildren. Hazel also is involved with the Michael Rolfe
Pancreatic Cancer Foundation and is a member of the High School District #113
caucus which endorses potential school board members.
