AMAKA UNAKA, a native of Nigeria, grew up in Southern California before receiving a B.A. in Legal Studies and Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a M.A. in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago, and a M.Ed. through KIPP's leadership program at New York University. However, she regards her best accomplishment as the impact she has had on the children and families she worked with over the years and the growth she has experienced as a result of it. Nothing in this world brings her more comfort or joy then working with children. More specifically, children and families who are not highly valued by society, often times forgotten, and allowed to slip through the cracks of a world that can be so cold and judgmental at times. Amaka became involved with Camp of Dreams from 2006-2009 as a Camp Counselor and Director of Residential Life. She currently works as a School Administrator for KIPP Ascend Charter School in North Lawndale. Amaka travels in her free time and also enjoys working out, cooking, horseback riding, and playing flag football.
